TODAY (OCTOBER 11, 2017) IS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD: WE CELEBRATE GIRLS OF ALL RACES

This day has been set aside to internationally recognize the girl child as an important member of our society.  It is all aimed at empowering the girl child and helping them overcome challenges in their respective communities.

This international day was declared by the UN in 2012 and since then it has been celebrated every year. The theme for this year's celebration is "Empower girls: emergency response and resilience planning"

"The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights," the UN's mission statement reads.

Every year many girls die as a result of violence. Early marriages, child trafficking and rape are one of the few challenges girls face all over the world.

Many NGO's are celebrating the international day of the Girl child in various ways.  UNICEF is organizing a series of events world wide. Visit their website to see if you can participate in your country.
If you wish to volunteer and support the international day of the girl child, visit the call to action page on UNICEF's website.
You can also DONATE THROUGH UNICEF to support girls all over the world, especially those living in abject poverty as a result crisis or violence .
